Siembra de Nombre Ceremony
Service Description
The Siembra De Nombre ceremony is an ancestral tradition with deep roots in the indigenous cultures of Mexico. These ceremonies are designed to connect the person with their identity and purpose, honoring Mother Earth and ancestral roots. Indigenous Roots and Origins Name planting (siembra) ceremonies have their origins in the spiritual practices of the Mexica and other indigenous communities. These ancient traditions are important today because they help us reconnect with our roots, value ancestral wisdom, and live in harmony with nature and therefore, ourselves. Ceremony Process The ceremony is officiated by Ehecayollotl, a Tonalpohque of Mexica tradition. A Tonalpohque is a person who interprets the Tonalpohualli, the sacred Mexica calendar, and helps people connect to their spiritual path. Ceremony Steps: • Preparation of the Sacred Space: The place is cleansed and purified with copal and sacred herbs. • Invocation of Elements: The four cardinal points and the elements (earth, water, fire, air) are called upon to guide and protect the ceremony. • Planting of the Name: The person being named receives their name in a symbolic act that may include consumption of certain foods, etc. • Thanksgiving Rituals: Offerings, songs and dances may be performed to thank the spirits and Mother Earth. Current Importance These ceremonies are vital today because they allow us to keep alive the connection with our cultural and spiritual roots. They also promote emotional and spiritual well-being, helping people find their purpose and live more consciously and balanced.
